Temporary Takeover of Frank Taal Gallery Space

From 23 July 2024, Jake Kelly and Simon Schrikker will take over Frank Taal Gallery in Rotterdam for a non-commercial, experimental project during the gallery's summer break. The gallery must be returned to its original state by 1 September.

For this second ‘Performative Interaction,’ Jake Kelly’s aim is to advance previous experiments. This new project will focus on a series of "walk and talks" to gather materials and engage in intimate, meaningful conversations about my practice. Over four weeks, Jake will work in the gallery as an open studio and conduct "walk and talks" two days per week, inviting participants to join him in collecting found materials such as trash, fallen branches, and grasses. These materials will contribute to a new large scale temporary installation. In this project, the creation of a temporary, site-specific artwork will serve as a catalyst for meaningful conversations and connections. The intimate interactions during the "walk and talks" and open studio sessions will allow Kelly to recruit participants into his world outlook while deeply understanding theirs. This mutual exchange of ideas aims to create ripple effects that may influence participants for years or perhaps decades to come.

Ultimately, "Carte Blanche Temporary Takeover of Frank Taal Gallery Space" seeks to demystify the artistic process and foster meaningful connections and conversations about sustainability and art in our modern world, encouraging honest self-reflection and inspiring sustainable living and creation.

This project is generously sponsored by CBK Rotterdam.
